Job summary

The Town of Tillsonburg is seeking three (4) Heavy Equipment Operators to support winter control tasks such as snow removal, asphalt repair, sewer work and related duties. You will operate light and heavy equipment and use various devices and software in a municipal Public Works setting.

The role is temporary full-time (Nov 2026–Mar 2027) with 40-hour weeks and an hourly rate of 31.24–36.55. Overtime, on-call shifts and weekend work are expected; a police record check is required and OMERS

Qualifications

• Minimum grade 12 or equivalent.
• Four (4) years’ experience in a Public Works or Operations environment.
• Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence with a DZ class endorsement.
• Chainsaw and Confined Space Certification an asset
• Knowledge of the Minimum Maintenance Standards and Occupational Health and Safety Act and ability to work in Public Works setting in a safe manner
• Good knowledge of traffic control procedures including Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 practices.
• Basic knowledge and experience in best practices in snow removal and salt application for an urban setting.
• Computer literate in MS Office, Windows, Internet, etc.
• Operation of computers, tablets, electronic devices, and various software applications and programs
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work safely individually or within a team environment.
• Ability to work with tight deadlines, take initiative and problem solve
• Willing to upgrade skills through training seminars and Public Works related courses
• Proficient use and operation of computers, tablets, electronic devices and various software applications and programs.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and light equipment safely as assigned.
• Perform winter snow clearing operations including plowing and salting.
• Inspect and repair road infrastructure and drainage.
• Provide traffic control and set up barricades per guidelines.
• Maintain records and reports related to field work.
• Assist other Town departments as required.
• Work in extreme weather conditions and be on-call as needed.
