Now Hiring: Welding Shop Supervisor / Machinist – Yellowknife, NT

NEXTreme Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Welding Shop Supervisor with strong hands-on experience in machining, fabrication, and estimating. This is a key leadership position in our Yellowknife-based manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be capable of supervising a team, operating CNC and plasma equipment, and producing accurate project estimates. Experience with AutoCAD is a strong asset.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Yellowknife, NT. Relocation is preferred, but rotational shifts may be considered for the right applicant.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of welders, machinists, and apprentices in a fast-paced fabrication environment
  • Operate CNC plasma cutter, brake, shear, rollers, lathes, mills, and other equipment
  • Estimate labor and material costs for custom machining and fabrication projects
  • Review and interpret blueprints, ensuring accurate execution from start to finish
  • Oversee production planning, quality control, and on-time delivery of projects
  • Train and support team members, ensuring safe and efficient operation of equipment
  • Participate in the hands-on diagnosis and troubleshooting of equipment and production issues

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in fabrication and machining
  • Experience supervising a shop and managing teams of up to 20 people
  • Proficiency with CNC machinery and manual fabrication tools
  • Strong working knowledge of fabrication standards such as CWB, ASME, or ISO
  • CWB certification (required); Journeyman Welder certification is an asset
  • AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks proficiency (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week, with potential overtime
  • Wage: Competitive and based on experience/certifications
  • Benefits: Health and dental coverage through Manulife after 3-month probation
