Job summary

IAMGOLD Corporation is seeking a Welder Apprentice to support the maintenance team on mobile mining equipment at the Cote Gold Mine site. You will learn structural welding, component rebuilding, and inspection tasks under Journeyperson Welders in a safety-focused setting.

The role requires current enrollment in a Welding Apprenticeship, knowledge of SMAW/GMAW/FCAW/GTAW and oxy-cutting, and a strong emphasis on PPE and lockout/tagout safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or pursuing a Welding Apprenticeship program.
  • Basic knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and oxy-acetylene cutting.
  • Understand welding safety practices including PPE and LOTO.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in structural welding repairs and fabrication on mobile mining equipment.
  • Support welding and cutting activities using multiple processes.
  • Inspect components for cracks, wear, and structural issues.
  • Repair high-wear parts like buckets and GET under supervision.
  • Follow CWB standards, OEM guidelines, and site quality requirements.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures including PPE.
  • Assist with field welding to support maintenance schedules.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team and learn troubleshooting.
  • Maintain tools and work areas in a clean, safe condition.

About the Role

The Welder Apprentice supports the maintenance team by assisting in welding and fabrication tasks on mobile mining equipment. This role provides hands‑on experience in structural repairs, component rebuilding, and inspection activities, while developing practical skills under the supervision of experienced welders in a safety‑focused environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in performing structural welding repairs and fabrication on mobile mining equipment under the guidance of Journeyperson Welders.
  • Support welding and cutting activities using various processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, oxy‑acetylene).
  • Help inspect equipment components for cracks, wear, and structural deficiencies.
  • Participate in the repair and rebuild of high‑wear components such as buckets, blades, truck boxes, undercarriage elements, and GET.
  • Ensure all work aligns with CWB standards, OEM guidelines, and site quality requirements (under supervision).
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including proper use of PPE and adherence to LOTO requirements.
  • Assist with field welding repairs to support maintenance schedules and minimize downtime.
  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team, learning troubleshooting techniques and contributing to equipment reliability.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
Job Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or working towards completion of a Welding Apprenticeship program.
  • Basic knowledge of welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and oxy‑acetylene cutting.
  • Understanding of welding safety practices, including PPE requirements, fire prevention, and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
Relevant Experience
  • Previous hands‑on experience (school, shop, or co‑op) supporting welding or mechanical maintenance activities in a plant or industrial environment such as mills, processing plants, or similar.
  • Exposure to inspecting and assisting with repairs on fixed plant equipment (chutes, piping, structural components), with a focus on safety procedures and quality standards.
Skills & Strengths We Value
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
  • Experience with high‑pressure welding and structural fabrication.
  • Ability to weld in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
  • Familiarity with working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to work in a remote mining environment.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Salary Range: $90,585 - $107,000 + Bonus. The final offer is determined based on your individual skills, qualifications, and competencies and aligned with our commitment to internal equity.
