Job description

Built for more than the weld.

At Boundary Equipment, welding is one part of a much bigger rebuild. We are looking for a Welder to join our Edmonton shop and work on large, high-value components used in some of the toughest mining conditions in the world—equipment where quality, reliability, and attention to detail matter.

This is not a production welding role. You’ll contribute to complete, engineering-led rebuilds and work alongside experienced tradespeople, inspectors, machinists, and engineers to return critical mining equipment to reliable operating condition.

We prefer a Journeyperson Welder, but we’re also open to an experienced apprentice who brings strong practical skills, dependable work ethic, and a willingness to take on every part of the job.

Why Boundary?

Since 1978, Boundary has built a reputation for reliable mining components, practical engineering, and rebuilds that perform in the field. From Edmonton to mining operations around the world, our work helps keep critical equipment running and extends the service life of components our customers depend on.

  • Work on large, complex mining components you won’t find in an average shop.
  • Contribute to complete, engineering-led rebuilds—not just one step in the process.
  • Use a broad range of welding, cutting, gouging, preparation, and finishing skills.
  • Work alongside experienced people who care about craftsmanship and getting the job right.
  • See the finished result of your work return to service in demanding operating environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform FCAW and SMAW welding to manufacture, repair, and rebuild mining and industrial components.
  • Disassemble and assemble components throughout the inspection and rebuild process.
  • Clean and pressure-wash parts and components before inspection and repair.
  • Prepare components for rebuilding by cutting, gauging, grinding, and cleaning parts.
  • Perform air arc gouging, plasma cutting, and torch work as required.
  • Prepare surfaces and paint completed parts and components.
  • Follow approved welding procedures, repair instructions, quality requirements, and production standards.
  • Complete required production, inspection, and quality documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
  • Support other stages of the rebuild process and assist with additional shop duties as required.
What You Bring
  • Journeyperson Welder certification is preferred; registered welding apprentices with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Current CWB tickets for FCAW and SMAW in the flat and horizontal positions are required.
  • Experience repairing or rebuilding heavy equipment or industrial components is an asset.
  • Experience using welding machines, grinders, torches, plasma cutters, and air arc gouging equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
  • A dependable, team-focused approach and commitment to quality.
  • Willingness to take on the full scope of the work—not just welding.
Working Safely

Safety is part of every job we do. You’ll be expected to:

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and established work practices.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and use tools for their intended purpose.
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Avoid shortcuts and unnecessary risks.
  • Look out for your own safety and the safety of those around you.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and repair shop specializing in mobile and stationary mining equipment components.
  • The role involves welding, grinding, painting, cleaning, pressure washing, and other hands‑on shop activities.
  • Standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds are required.
  • Overtime may be available or required.
  • The shop is fast‑paced and requires close attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
