Job summary

The Journeyperson Welder position is based at our BP manufacturing plant in Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this role supports plant reliability and operations by performing welding, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities include welding, cutting, fabrication, repairs, and modifications on plant equipment; troubleshooting to minimize downtime; reading blueprints and work orders; preventative maintenance; and

Qualifications

• Red Seal Journeyperson Welding Certification is required.
• Strong welding, fabrication, maintenance, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read technical drawings and follow safety procedures.
• Strong teamwork, reliability and commitment to safety.
• SAP/CMMS and equipment certifications are assets.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, repairs, and modifications on plant equipment and structural components.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and minimize downtime.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
• Perform preventative maintenance on production and facility equipment.
• Operate welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication equipment safely.
• Support equipment installations, shutdowns, maintenance projects, and plant improvements.
• Maintain tools and work areas in 5S and safety standards, including lockout/tagout.
• Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to report safety concerns and equipment deficiencies.

Job description

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, dust, and varying temperatures.
• Availability for rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and emergency call-outs.
• Ability to perform physical work, including climbing, bending, confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Required PPE must be worn at all times.
