Job summary

Cowaron Chemtrade in Fort McMurray, AB is seeking a Maintenance Welder to support the maintenance team on a 7 on, 7 off day shift. The role requires a Red Seal Class A welder with 5+ years of industrial experience, and proficiency in Stick, MIG, and TIG welding.

  • Assists with installation, fit-up and alignment of piping systems.
  • Maintains safety and environmental standards on site.

Job Title: Maintenance Welder

Location: Fort McMurray, AB

Work Schedule: 7 on, 7 off, day shift

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Compensation: 68.00$/hr

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Maintenance Welder supports and assists the Maintenance Team in operating the facility safely and efficiently, ensuring production quality and adherence to environmental, safety, and ethical regulations.

Safety / Health / Environment
  • Maintain familiarity with Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).
  • Complete all required ES&H training timely.
  • Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate ES&H procedures and practices.
  • Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for ES&H program improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Pipeline fitting layouts, assembles pipe supports.
  • Select pipe type, size, and related materials and equipment such as supports, hangers according to specifications.
  • Inspect work site for obstructions and structural weaknesses from drilled holes.
  • Plan installation or repair to avoid obstructions and interference with other workers.
  • Cut pipe using saws, pipe cutters, hammers, chisels, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and pipe cutting machines.
  • Assemble and help install a variety of metal and non‑metal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, stainless steel, steel, Teflon, copper, and plastic.
  • Set up and operate arc welding machines to weld fabricated metal products as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding procedures and operating charts.
  • Weld flat, cylindrical, or irregular parts that may be clamped, tacked or otherwise positioned.
  • Grind welded surfaces for penetrant tests and system installations, adjusting machine setup to vary bead size, location, and penetration.
  • Install track templates to weld irregularly shaped seams.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded.
  • Set up, assemble, and tack weld parts and complete finish welds.
  • Build up worn or defective surfaces.
  • Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and cut material to size and shape.
  • Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment based on observation and experience.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ticketed Red Seal Class A welder.
  • High School Diploma.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in an industrial or chemical environment (highly preferred).
  • Proficiency in Stick, MIG, TIG welding, PWP 7 and 10, stainless steel welding an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.
  • Ability to work off‑shift requirements, including periodic emergency callouts during off shift, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be capable of performing tasks in varying temperatures while wearing personal protective equipment.

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee is occasionally required to climb stairs or ladders (including vertical).

  • Must be able to work in confined work spaces.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be “fit for duty”.
