CESSCO Fabrication and Engineering Ltd. is hiring a Journeyperson Welder in Edmonton, AB to work both day and night shifts in our pressure vessel fabrication shop.The Journeyperson Welder is responsible for all types of production processes, including welds, coupons, and procedure development. They need basic knowledge of the construction codes related to their work and should be able to interpret and follow welding specifications and tolerances for shop fabrications. This includes reading and interpreting drawings and documents such as welding procedures, standards and specifications, purchase orders, terms and conditions and other documents related to fabrication requirements.They should also know the correct consumables, flux, preheat, and other information needed to do their job before they start welding.The Journeyperson Welder is responsible for maintaining company safety standards and quickly reporting any safety problems to a supervisor. We will provide ongoing training in safety, welding procedures, quality control, and productivity as well.The Journeyperson Welder should be able to communicate with clients, inspectors, and production team members, and even sketch basic images to better explain concepts.This role includes physical work and requires manual dexterity and the ability to stand, climb, bend and crawl. The Journeyperson Welder must also be able to lift and exert forces of anywhere from 10 to 50 lbs and work at heights.This is a dynamic, industrial work environment, and we're looking for people who can think and react quickly as well as multitask and stay organized.After 90 days, benefits such as health and dental care, disability insurance, life insurance, and RRSP matching will be available. This position pays $41.20 per hour and has a 40-hour work week with a mix of day and night shifts.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Complete training for and follow all safety programs governing activities in all fabrication shops.
• Ensure the correct application of welding specifications and tolerances to all shop fabrications.
• Ensure knowledge of the correct consumable, flux, preheat and other information as required prior to commencing any welding operations.
• Ensure weld size, quality and required markings (STAMPING) are applied to all completed or partially completed welds.
• Immediately report any defective equipment or safety condition to a supervisor including those which are quickly and easily corrected by them. Immediately reports any issues with welding consumables.
• Ensure work area is tidy before and after tasks.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• May occasionally provide direction and supervision to apprentices as directed.
• Is obligated to observe and act on Safety.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret drawings and documents such as welding procedures, standards and specifications, purchase orders, terms and conditions and other documents related to fabrication requirements.
• A background in all welding processes, material handling, forming, burning, rigging, layout and fitting operations.
• Ongoing training and qualification with CESSCO welding procedures, safety policies, quality control, and productivity.
• Ability to interpret and apply safety and other internal policies to any situation.
• Ability to speak effectively to clients, inspectors, and production team members.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to sketch basic images as a part of communicating to others.
• Ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions in written, oral or drawing form.
• Ability to think and react quickly in a highly dynamic environment.
• Ability to multitask and remain highly organized.
• Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
• Frequent climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
• Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures.
• Lifting and/or exerting of force from 10 up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent operation of mobile equipment.

Education

• High School Diploma.
• Trade Certification in Welding including a valid CWB all position SMAW and FCAW Certificate of Competency.
• Performance qualifications (current or previous) in most welding processes.

Work Environment

• The working environment is heavy industrial.
• Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with frequent exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
• The employee is routinely required to work in confined spaces, at heights and in extreme temperature conditions.
• Wearing and use of proper personal protective equipment is required.

Working hours: 40–0 hours per week.
