Job summary

Yukon Women's Transition Home in Whitehorse is seeking an entry-level Weekend Transition Home Worker for a part-time term position. The role runs Saturdays and Sundays from 4 pm to midnight, with a closing date of October 28, 2026; ends March 5, 2027.

You will provide support to women and gender-diverse survivors, ensure safety, coordinate referrals, and assist with housekeeping and crisis response. This role emphasizes advocacy, compassion, and teamwork in a high-stress environment.

Qualifications

• Combination of experience and post-secondary education in a related field.
• Knowledge of gender-based violence and issues facing women and gender diverse individuals.
• Knowledge of resources available to women and gender diverse folx.
• Experience working in a cross-cultural setting and knowledge/sensitivity to the needs of Indigenous women and their children.
• Proven ability to respond to crisis and support others in a professional manner.
• Proven ability to advocate for service users while maintaining respectful relationships with other agencies.
• Satisfactory current criminal record check.
• Knowledge of Response Based Practice an asset.
• Ability to work with team members in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
• Ability to process statistics and input data into the database; proficient in MS-Word and emailing.

Responsibilities

• Preserve dignity while offering support, referrals, accompaniment and advocacy for victims.
• Provide support, referral, advocacy and accompaniment to women and their children accessing services.
• Support women and gender diverse people and their children in crisis in-person and by telephone.
• Maintain the safety and security of clients and property.
• Assist with operation of a 24-hour facility.
• Collaborate with team to ensure best support.
• Assist in shopping for supplies.
• Heavy cleaning including scrubbing, mopping and high shelves.
