Job Description:

Position Purpose Summary:

This role involves receiving and inspecting goods, verifying items against shipment records, pick-up and delivery of goods, gathering, verifying, and packing items for shipment according to specifications, and recording received and shipped items.

Accountabilities:

The incumbent may perform all or some of the following duties:

Warehouse:

  • Perform shipping and receiving of goods.
  • Load and unload trucks using powered and manual material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Inspect received goods for quality, damage, and expiry dates; document, rotate, and store stock appropriately.
  • Build skids of goods for delivery.
  • Sort and categorize food and non-food items.
  • Accurately count and weigh products during delivery or shipment.
  • Assist with inventory reconciliation (cycle counting).
  • Use Warehouse Management System/Inventory Management System to record and facilitate operations.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of the warehouse, yard, and equipment.
  • Inspect powered and manual MHE for safety.
  • Replenish and put away materials using reach trucks to navigate narrow aisles.

General:

  • Promote the Mission, Policies, and Objectives of The Salvation Army.
  • Prepare, complete, and submit documentation promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Wear appropriate safety and PPE, maintaining a clean uniform.
  • Ensure all work complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Critical Relationship Management

Work closely with the Warehouse Supervisor, Supply Chain Warehouse Manager, Drivers, and volunteers. Interact courteously with suppliers and donors.

Leadership Responsibility:

Reports to the Program Coordinator. No direct reports.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor/outdoor work with 70% travel within city limits and 30% warehouse support.
  • Work involves handling garbage, repetitive tasks, and exposure to odors.
  • Work includes working in freezers and refrigerators, with outdoor work in winter.
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, with regular weights under 40 lbs.

All responsibilities are to be performed in line with The Salvation Army's Mission, demonstrating Christian conduct.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

  • Compliance with OH&S Act and policies.
  • High school completion or equivalent; experience may be considered.
  • Current Forklift Operator's Certificate.

Driver's License and Experience:

  • Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Minimum 6 months related experience in a warehouse.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Attention to detail, following policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, confident.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexible schedule during peak times.
  • Ability to multitask professionally.
  • Understanding of the Code of Ethics.
  • Diplomatic, tactful, organized, and time-managed.
  • Background check clearance.

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.

Compensation:

The target salary range is $17.85 to $18.58 per hour, with a maximum of $22.29. Placement depends on market factors, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.
