Summary:

The VP of Financial Planning and Analysis will lead UNC Health system-level financial planning efforts, including developing and maintaining the health system's capital plan, long-range financial plan, setting system margin targets and return thresholds, and supporting business decision-making with analytic insights. The role involves leading return on investment analyses for major investments and providing financial leadership and coordination across planning, reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, and financial statement reporting. The VP will also act as a finance consultant in areas such as business intelligence, clinical service lines, shared services, and fiscal affairs of hospital facilities and medical groups. This position requires collaboration with the finance leadership team to provide strategic financial guidance to senior leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage financial planning functions, including annual budget completion, forecasting, business case development, and partnering with operational leaders to ensure financial implications are considered in decision-making. Lead performance metrics and promote data-driven decision-making, training staff on actionable data use, and monitoring performance. Act as liaison across administration, faculty, and staff to coordinate business operations and resolve issues. Design and produce operational reports for finance and leadership. Oversee financial operations of shared services, including budget processes and performance management. Collaborate on due diligence for potential new entrants to the healthcare system.
  • Lead Change - Act as a catalyst for organizational change, influencing others to realize the vision and adapt to a dynamic environment. Establish and implement organizational vision, handle pressure effectively, recover from setbacks, and manage risks and opportunities with a long-term perspective.
  • Lead People - Guide teams towards the organization's mission, fostering an inclusive workplace, encouraging teamwork, and resolving conflicts constructively. Develop others through feedback and learning opportunities, manage sensitive information appropriately, and promote a culture of excellence and engagement.
  • Results Driven - Exceed organizational goals and customer expectations by making high-quality, timely, and cost-effective decisions. Foster continuous improvement, support safe patient care, identify new opportunities, and lead budgeting and expenditure monitoring.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.

Experience: 15+ years of progressive responsibility, including 8+ years in healthcare finance and 10+ years in management.

Skills: Strong problem-solving, project management, change management, and innovative thinking skills, capable of designing and implementing complex initiatives in a healthcare environment.
