Job description

The Vice President, Finance (VP Finance) is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial health, planning, and operations of Sun Peaks Resort LLP and affiliated entities. The VP Finance will provide financial insight and recommendations to support high-growth initiatives while ensuring financial sustainability, compliance, and operational excellence. This role requires a results-oriented leader with strong financial acumen, strategic thinking, and an ability to drive financial performance in a dynamic resort environment.

The role is well suited to an experienced finance professional looking to build on their experience in a resort or hospitality setting to date or looking to make a lifestyle change and better align career and personal goals. Either way, you are an ambassador for the guest experience, thrive on data and insights to inform business decisions, and are comfortable working with a close-knit team in a lean and efficient operation.

Given our unique environment, this role brings with it the opportunity to be part of a team located in Canada’s second-largest ski area in British Columbia and take advantage of the wonderful year-round mountain playground available in the resort.

Compensation Information: $145,000 to $155,000 (plus annual bonus)

Physical Requirement: Sedentary; work activities involve handling loads up to 5kg; predominantly in an indoor setting.

This job position requires physical presence at the designated location.

Skills You Bring With You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA designation preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in the hospitality, resort, or real estate industry
  • Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, accounting principles, and risk management
  • Experience in capital investment planning, financing structures, and business development
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and provide strategic insights for decision-making
  • First-class communication skills with the ability to build and nurture relationships with partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated excellence in cross-functional collaboration
  • A champion for safety and the guest experience – every member of the team adopts and promotes healthy and safe working practices and embodies a strong guest service ethic

Primary Responsibilities

  • Financial Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and execute financial strategies to support Sun Peaks Resort’s long-term growth and investment plans
  • Provide financial leadership to senior executives and department heads to align financial goals with the company’s strategic objectives
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes to ensure alignment with business priorities
  • Financial Operations & Reporting
  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and timely delivery of financial statements
  • Manage and optimize financial systems, accounting processes, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, tax requirements, and reporting standards
  • Technology & Digital Strategy Leadership
  • Provide strategic oversight of the IT department, ensuring alignment with business and financial objectives
  • Oversee IT budgeting and financial planning, optimizing costs while maintaining technology efficiency and security
  • Ensure effective implementation of financial systems, enterprise software, and data management solutions
  • Support cybersecurity and risk management initiatives, ensuring data integrity and compliance with industry regulations
  • Collaborate with IT leadership to enhance digital transformation initiatives, including automation, reporting tools, and business intelligence capabilities
  • Investment & Growth Planning
  • Support capital investment decisions by conducting financial analysis and risk assessment
  • Evaluate funding and financing options for infrastructure development, expansion, and sustainability initiatives
  • Monitor financial performance metrics and provide recommendations to enhance revenue generation and cost management
  • Risk Management & Compliance
  • Implement and oversee risk management strategies, including financial, operational, and regulatory risks
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 and other relevant environmental and financial certifications
  • Work closely with external auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies to maintain compliance and financial transparency
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team (including compensation & benefits) to build a high-performing financial department
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the finance function
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiency and business performance
