Job summary

Family Services of Greater Vancouver is hiring a Victim Support Worker for the Treehouse program in Vancouver. The role supports child and youth victims and adult survivors of abuse, providing trauma-informed services and working with police, MCFD, and the justice system.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, participate in ongoing education, and contribute to a safe workplace with growth opportunities within a well-established non-profit.

Qualifications

• B.S.W. or relevant degree from a recognized university.
• Minimum two years of experience supporting and advocating for children/youth who have experienced violence, abuse, neglect, or self-neglect.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized services to child and youth victims and adult survivors.
• Manage relationships with police, MCFD, clients, and the justice system.
• Work independently within a specialized response team in Vancouver and with the FSGV Victim Services team.
• Maintain crisis intervention and safety planning skills and document case information.

About Our Opportunity

This Victim Support Worker works as part of a specialized partnership team at Treehouse Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (treehousevancouver.ca ). In this role, you will be providing specialized services to child and youth victims (all genders) of crimes, in particular abuse/assault (sexual and physical); adult survivors of childhood abuse (sexual and physical); and non‑offending family members of a victim. This position is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position and reports to the Manager of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) Victim Services Program.

What do you need to succeed?

Education, Training, Experience

• B.S.W. or relevant B.A. from a recognized, accredited university.
• Minimum two years of experience supporting and advocating for children and/or youth who have experienced violence, abuse, neglect, or self-neglect.

Role Qualifications and Skills include, but are not limited to

• Experience and familiarity with the justice system and social services
• Effectively manage relationships with the police unit,MCFD, clients, and criminal justice system.
• Ability to work independently, and as part of a specialized response team in Vancouver, and as part of the larger FSGV Victim Services team.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and support skills, riskassessmentand ability to safety plan.
• Knowledge of dynamics of violence in intimate relationships and the systemic, psychological, and physiological impacts of sexual, physical and emotional abuse in childhood.
• Collaborative communication, including teamwork and cooperation, interpersonal communication,diversityand cultural agility.
• Personal effectiveness, including integrity and ethical behaviour, personal resilience, adaptability/flexibility.
• Commitmentto:results focus, client-centered service, planning and organizing and technicalproficiencyin Microsoft Outlook,Exceland Word.
• Maintain contact and network effectively with other community service providers and to provideareferral base for clients.
• Meettheadministrative expectations oftheagency and program,including file record-keeping and data collection.

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of an Enhanced Criminal Record Check
• A second language is an asset.
• Ability/comfort working in the same setting as a justice-facilitated dog.
