Job summary

The Resort Municipality of Whistler invites applications for the Wastewater Operator 1 position. Reporting to the Chief Wastewater Operator, the role starts with 76.5 hours bi-weekly at $41.79 per hour, with an 8- or 14-day rotating schedule.

Responsibilities include operating and maintaining plant equipment, performing inspections, and logging data. Qualified candidates have a grade 12 diploma and EOCP Level 1 certification, along with relevant experience and BC licensing where required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma; post-secondary in Environmental Monitoring or Water and Wastewater Technology with EOCP Level 1.
• 1–2 years of related work experience; knowledge of primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes incl. enhanced biological nutrient removal, SCADA programming.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings; maintain daily logs; understand safety regulations and hazards; physically able to lift and work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Utilities department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Wastewater Operator 1. Reporting to the Chief Wastewater Operator, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible.

The Wastewater Operator will assist in the operation, monitoring, and general maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities in accordance with the BC Ministry of Environment Regulations. Key duties include routine inspections of equipment, monitors, meters, and control panels to establish schedules and procedures, to operate and maintain a variety of equipment, to assist in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, and instruments, carry out routine testing and maintain records and logs.

Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma and preferably completion of post-secondary education in Environmental Monitoring or Water and Wastewater Technology program with a valid EOCP Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collections Level 1 certification. Qualified candidates will have 1-2 years of related work experience and sound knowledge of relevant primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes, including enhanced biological nutrient removal, SCADA programming, and the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of a treatment plant. Candidates also possess the ability to read and interpret drawings, maintain daily logs, understand safety regulations and occupational hazards related to the work and be physically able to perform moderate to heavy lifting and work in all weather conditions.

A valid EOCP Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collections Level 1 and a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract are requirements of the position. This position works 76.5 hours bi-weekly at a starting wage of $41.79 per hour. Employees in the utilities department normally work a schedule consisting of 8 days of work in a fourteen-day period. Each day of work shall be 9.5 hours exclusive of one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
