Job summary

The City of Saskatoon is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator to work within the Roadways, Fleet and Support Services division. You will operate trucks, loaders and graders, perform routine maintenance, and help train staff in proper operating techniques.

Under supervision you will maintain service records, assist with servicing, and handle additional duties as assigned. A valid Saskatchewan Class 1A licence and current driving abstract are required.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Five years' experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
  • Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, the core training module for heavy equipment operation.
  • Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, the backhoe/ excavator training module to be eligible for certification.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work to ensure effective operations and service delivery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to follow all applicable procedures and policies.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, and the uses and maintenance characteristics of the equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and parts used in repairing and servicing equipment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to observe and analyse the operating capability of other operators, and to instruct and train in the process involved.
  • Ability to perform the services required to assist the mechanical or service staff.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Salary Range:$30.85to$32.89CADper hour(2026rates)
