Job summary

The City of Mississauga is seeking a Forestry Management Assistant to support the urban forest program through field data collection, inspections, and permit-related tasks. You will help with planting locations, tree protection bylaws, and data maintenance.

This temporary role involves coordinating with the Forestry Resource Management team and assisting with events and audits. Work is based in Mississauga, with regular hours and occasional overtime, including evenings or weekends as required.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in forestry, arboriculture, urban forestry, ecology, environmental science or a related field.
• 1–2 years of related work experience or an approved equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of urban forestry, arboriculture, and ecological principles and practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, GIS, computers, mobile devices.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to plan, organize and complete assigned duties within timelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Valid Ontario Class G2 Driver’s License or higher with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide recommendations for tree planting locations and species within public road allowances and City parks.
• Respond to resident tree planting service requests.
• Perform field audits to validate work orders and ensure contracts are completed.
• Assist in monitoring health and condition of forestry assets and report deficiencies.
• Support natural area restoration projects and event logistics.
• Screen development applications for tree impacts for review.
• Provide guidance to summer students and volunteers as needed.
• Collect data and complete research for Forestry projects.
• Maintain records, GIS maps, spreadsheets and data.
