Job summary

WSP is seeking an Arborist to join our Ontario team in the Greater Toronto Area. You will contribute to an integrated Landscape Architecture, Arboriculture and Urban Forestry practice, with field and office work in a collaborative environment.

You will work with Senior Arborists, Ecologists and Landscape Architects on tree inventories, protection, policy development and project impact assessments across municipal and private clients. A valid license and willingness to travel are required.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture or Landscape Technology; or similar.
  • 3+ years of professional arboriculture experience.
  • ISA Certified Arborist (attained or in progress).
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD to develop Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans.
  • Strong tree identification and assessment skills.
  • Project management skills (time/task management, invoicing, etc.).
  • Experience with private and public sector clients in delivery of Arboriculture services.
  • Strong understanding of Municipal Tree By-Laws and Conservation Authority regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the GTA/Southern Ontario to project sites.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork independently on various sites.

Responsibilities

  • Complete tree inventories, assessments and related arboriculture field work.
  • Respond to tree protection by-law stipulations and prepare tree removal permits.
  • Contribute to arboriculture and urban forestry policies for clients.
  • Assess impacts to trees from proposed developments and infrastructure.
  • Arborist report writing, proposals and occasional presentations.
  • Attend meetings as an arboriculture representative for WSP.
  • Interpret Species at Risk requirements for projects.
  • Prepare Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans.
  • Pursue Arborist specific proposals and site visits.
  • Provide guidance on implementing tree protection measures on site.
