Job summary

The City of Toronto is inviting applications for Planner for urban forestry. The role involves commenting on capital projects to protect ravines and trees, and communicating city requirements to applicants and contractors.

You will work with City staff, Metrolinx, Conservation Authority staff, architects, arborists and geotechnical engineers; prepare forestry graphics and documents; represent the City at meetings and maintain records.

Qualifications

  • Secondary degree in Forestry, Ecology or related discipline with related work experience in environmental planning.
  • Experience identifying native plants and plant communities in Southern Ontario, including developing planting plans.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and with self-directed work groups.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence Class “G”.
  • Knowledge of tree and natural feature protection By-Laws.

  • Develop and maintain client relations with City staff, Metrolinx, Conservation Authority staff, architects, arborists, and geotechnical engineers.

Job description

  • Applicants at this post must have prior experience of being part of multidisciplinary teams, and working cooperatively with self-directed work groups, other divisions and They must possess and be able to maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” working at this post.
  • They must have dedicated knowledge and the ability to administrate provisions of, tree and natural feature protection By-Laws to be preferred for this post.
Work setting
  • Applicants for this post must have prior knowledge of Metrolinx and the City’s transit projects and their potential impacts on trees and urban forests to be eligible for this post.
