Qualifications

Unit Clerk, Clerical Resource Team - (14241)

Job Type: Regular Part Time

Location: Mount Sinai Hospital Campus - Toronto, ON M5G 1X5 CA (Primary)

Hours (subject to change): Must be available to work regularly on days, Monday to Friday, as well as rotating shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays; days, evenings, and nights (8 and 12 hour shifts) for a minimum of 24 hours per week.

Salary Scale: CAD $27.87 - $30.26 (2024 CUPE UC3A)

Job Description

Sinai Health is seeking a clerical professional to join our Clerical Resource Team (CRT) at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

About this team

The Clerical Resource Team is a new team which has been created to respond to Unit Clerk staffing resource requirements. The CRT is an agile team dedicated to meeting the needs of departments across the organization which are supported by Unit Clerks. As part of the Clerical Resource Team, Unit Clerks will receive orientation and training to support multiple units. Units include: Labour & Delivery, Endoscopy, Perioperative and Pre-Admission Unit.

In this role you will
  • Receive, greet, screen and provide pertinent unit information to all patients, families, visitors and staff
  • Perform clerical tasks and procedures required to prepare for patient scheduling
  • Interview, admit and register patients according to departmental and hospital policies and procedures
  • Provide support for unit security and respond to emergency codes
  • Perform data entry of patient information accurately and efficiently in Cerner Module, including required financial information (e.g. Health Care Card, insurance, credit card, etc.)
  • Process patient appointments, physicians' orders and diagnostic orders
  • Maintain patient charts, including the collection and input of unit specific statistics
  • Support the collection, maintenance, distribution and communication of critical unit data (e.g. lab results, etc.)
  • Provide administrative support services to the unit (e.g. posting notices, circulating minutes/memos, word processing, data entry, photocopying, printing documents for distribution, reception, answering, logging and transferring telephone calls, paging, patient care communication, ordering of supplies, maintain equipment, etc.)
  • Participate in professional development activities (e.g. training sessions, quality improvement initiatives, policy manual reviews, etc.)
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and data security at all times
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements

Mandatory

  • Successful completion of a diploma or degree from an accredited educational institution with preference given to those who have graduated from a Medical Secretary/Office Administration program

Preferred

  • 1 year of experience working in an acute care environment
  • 1 year of experience in processing various forms of payment
  • Proficient in Cerner

  • Demonstrated telephone, interpersonal and customer service skills required; compassion and good public relations skills are necessary when dealing with anxious patients and families
  • Proven conflict management, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
Note: This position requires a minimum 40 wpm keyboarding/data entry speed.
