Underwriting Manager - Construction & Energy

The Underwriting Manager position is responsible for the profitable production and underwriting of Construction and Energy accounts from retail brokers across Canada. This person will also be the point person for all construction lines within Canada, working closely with each of the profit center heads to set strategy and develop business plans for the region. This person will operate as the Canadian Team Lead and guide others in the production/retention of profitable Construction Property, Construction Casualty, Construction Professional/Pollution and Energy Property coverages.
This position is key in driving the successful execution of the unit’s strategic plan, with particular emphasis on growth and excellent service standards.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Coordinate/facilitate/lead new business, renewals, re-pricings, restrictions, special acceptances, commutations and cancellations in determining risk acceptability & coverage, in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authorities.
- Lead and grow the Construction and Energy underwriting team in Canada.
- Assist in generating Revenue and Expense budgets and maintain compliance with them.
- Possess a depth of underwriting expertise in Construction and Energy and handle the more complex accounts, leveraging that knowledge to lead and develop others.
- Foster communication and be responsible for coordination with other areas that support our business, namely Claims, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Underwriting Support, Financial Credit Control, Billing, Marketing and Compliance/Regulatory.
The position reports directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer (Large Commercial), Canada.

- Anticipate customer and market trends in order to position AXA XL as a responsible and innovative “market shaper” and Thought Leader in the industry.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Professional Designations CIP, CRM, CPCU preferred.
- Extensive underwriting experience across the construction and energy industry preferably with exposure to large accounts.
- Robust insured and broker contacts.
- Robust negotiation and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Team player.
