Assistant Construction Manager
Location: Toronto
Job Description:
The Assistant Construction Manager will assist the Construction Project Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and/or the Engineer Procure Construct (EPC) Project Manager or Program Manager with day-to-day management of project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, procurement, proposals, estimates, documentation, turnover, client interface, field-based activities, and other duties required to execute EPC projects, construction management, and program management ventures. This position will work on a diverse array of projects across multiple industries including aviation, commercial building, electrical transmission & distribution, facility, manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, process, and water.
- Adhere to company's safety programs, training, and policies, and collaborate with the project team to manage safety & health performance.
- Build client relationships and interface with clients for proposal and project-related items.
- Assist in developing project risk reviews and consult with the Legal Department as required.
- Coordinate and assist in developing and implementing the Project Execution Plan, Quality Assurance Plan, Safety & Health Plan, and other project plans.
- Contribute to negotiation, approval, and execution of contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
- Develop project plans for site mobilization and demobilization and support their implementation.
- Secure project permits required for the project.
- Support bidders' registration and pre-qualification efforts.
- Prepare RFPs, support scope of work development, bid and selection processes, and create contract documents.
- Support implementation of project specifications, drawing releases, and design changes.
- Manage downstream contract administration including RFI's, submittals, meetings, change management, and claims mitigation.
- Support project cost reporting, scheduling, work breakdown structures, and project closeout.
- Report project status, risks, schedule, costs, and cash flows at meetings and develop minutes.
- Support invoicing processes and maintain project documentation systems.
- Verify insurance, licensures, taxes/duties, and securities are in effect.
- Support safety, quality, progress, and financial audits.
- Facilitate materials receiving, inventory control, and transportation.
- Collaborate with Superintendents and Site Managers to verify compliance with contract documents and safety & health requirements.
- Oversee project turnover, recordkeeping, warranty, and closeout processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist with developing project labor agreements and onboarding craft/field supervision.
- Analyze crew rates, labor costs, and monitor labor burdens.
- Maintain accurate craft classifications and training standards.
- Estimate and manage labor and equipment costs, productivity, and change management.
- Manage construction equipment inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, with 3 years relevant experience, or applicable experience in lieu of degree.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with project management software preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in industries such as aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water is preferred.
- Basic understanding of GAAP.
- Must meet company's driving requirements.
