Reporting to the President/CEO, the Underwriting Manager is responsible for providing leadership and guidance is responsible for the overall administration and management of the Underwriting Team, providing leadership and oversight in the delivery and execution of specific commercial, farm, automotive and personal lines insurance coverages. In collaboration with the President/CEO, responsible for the development and implementation of BCM’s underwriting strategy, including premium rates, underwriting guidelines and policy improvements. Develops and maintains trustworthy, mutually beneficial relationships with advisor, and internal teams to effectively serve and grow BCM’s book of business.
QUALIFICATIONS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
·University /College Degree or Diploma.
·Certified Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP).
·Knowledge of Guidewire is an asset.
·Communicates effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
·Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
·Positive, driven, and disciplined attitude.
·Solution and problem solving oriented.
·Flexible and adaptable to change.
·Uphold the highest standard in respecting personal privacy and maintaining company and client’s confidentiality.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:
·Collaborates with Advisor, Adjusters, Loss Prevention and Finance to minimize losses, manage risk exposures, and generate beneficial solutions for customers.
·Evaluates current and future risk exposures to identify trends, investigate concerns, and provide effective recommendations for improvements.
·Reviews high-risk policy applications to support Underwriters in determining appropriate coverage solutions.
·Conducts large loss reviews to assess financial impacts, modifying Underwriting Guidelines as appropriate.
·Supports underwriting of difficult and complex accounts, seeking additional guidance where necessary.
·Investigates claims risk alerts to protect BCM’s financial capital and proactively manage risk exposures.
·Contribute to building an informal career development plan for developing Underwritings on knowledge, working habits and experience-based insights through on—the-job training, coaching, and mentoring.
·Manage the performance of team members, conducting performance reviews, providing coaching and ongoing professional development, and delivering work guidance, instructions and directions as needed
·Facilitates weekly team meetings to promote morale and alignment of departmental goals, and open and ongoing communication amongst team members.
·Provide leadership to team members, monitor workflows for efficiency, quality and quantity to establish oversight on staff performance, policy holder satisfaction and equitable distribution of workload
·Identify training opportunities and requirements for team members. Schedule, coordinate and track the delivery of training
·Manage the recruitment, interviewing and hiring process as needed
·Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
·10+ years progressive underwriting experience with both Farm/Commercial and Property/Auto, 7 years in the direct underwriting of risks
·5+ years leadership experience preferred.
