UNDERWRITING MANAGER for a Mid-Size Insurance Company
Location: Ontario, Canada
Specializing in Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, and Farm Insurance. The role reports to the Director of Underwriting and oversees teams across these areas, with one team leader per line. Candidates may have expertise in all three areas or focus on one or two.

Role Overview
The incumbent manages the Operational Underwriting and Loss Prevention teams through assigned leaders, contributing to the company's strategic goals. Responsibilities include achieving revenue targets, optimizing operational performance, and ensuring compliance with underwriting policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage departmental budget and support recruitment and development of front-line leaders
- Promote team building and employee empowerment
- Coordinate with reinsurers and build a customer-friendly culture
- Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiencies
- Represent the organization in community initiatives and industry functions
- Lead quality assurance and compliance audits
- Participate in strategic planning and leadership initiatives
- Develop and maintain strong relationships within and outside the organization
- Oversee talent development, performance management, and succession planning
- Ensure high service levels and develop mitigation strategies
- Support the development of the teams' vision and strategic direction
Candidate Profile
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
- Experience in managing multiple teams and projects
- Solid understanding of insurance risk and underwriting practices
- Relevant post-secondary education; professional designations are an asset
- High ethical standards, confidentiality, and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and analytical tools
