Work Arrangements:

You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as-needed basis. Sales-related roles may require travel based on the assignment.

The Opportunity:

Equitable is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team. The Senior Underwriter plays a key role in risk assessment for life and critical illness products. What you will be doing:

• Apply strong and holistic underwriting expertise in all areas, including medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
• Consistently provide high-quality work.
• Manage daily volumes independently to meet service standards.
• Comply with legislative requirements, consumer regulation, and reinsurance treaties related to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes and procedures.
• Provide mentorship to other underwriters, sharing guidance and expertise.

• Superior technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong reinsurance relationships and negotiation skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proactive and service-oriented relationship skills.
• 3+ years of professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter.
• FLMI / FALU designation or currently working towards it.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and industry trend awareness.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
