Position Details

Title: Senior Underwriter

Reports To: Manager, Underwriting

Department: Individual Underwriting

Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: Remote work from home; occasional in-person meetings at Waterloo, ON, or other locations within Waterloo Region. Travel may be required for sales roles.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team. This role involves risk assessment for life and critical illness products, contributing to our success and providing a valuable development opportunity within Waterloo Region's top employers.

Responsibilities
  1. Apply comprehensive underwriting expertise across medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
  2. Ensure high-quality work and meet service standards.
  3. Manage daily work volumes independently.
  4. Deliver a first-class client experience.
  5. Comply with legislative, regulatory, and reinsurance requirements.
  6. Enhance underwriting processes and procedures.
  7. Mentor and guide other underwriters.
Qualifications
  1. Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
  2. Strong knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
  3. Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment.
  4. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  5. Strong communication and relationship skills.
  6. 3+ years of experience in Life and Critical Illness Underwriting.
  7. FLMI / FALU designation or working towards it.
  8. Commitment to ongoing learning and industry trends.
  9. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
