As an Underwriter in Affinity Markets, you will have the privilege of working with varied distribution channels including National Accounts, MGAs, and Advisors. Position Responsibilities
- Select and classify risks according to Manulife’s philosophy and standards.
- Provide excellent customer service and build positive relationships with all internal and external clients.
- Ensure compliance with all legislation and consumer regulation related to risk classification, privacy, and disclosure.
- Identify and provide solutions to work-related problems and procedures.
- Ensure team goals are met at all times and promote an atmosphere of confidence and trust with all customers to facilitate acceptance of decisions.
- Stay informed about trends and changes in medicine, human anatomy, medical terminology, diseases, tests, and modes of treatment.
- Put customers first by finding the right solutions and going the extra mile because it's the right thing to do.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a life insurance underwriter.
- Approval limit of at least 1.5 million in life insurance, $100,000 in critical illness insurance (CI), and $10,000 in disability insurance (DI).
- A mindset of continuous learning and awareness of current events, financial industry issues, and trends.
- Excellent analytical skills to define, research, and solve problems.
- Exceptional customer service skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to understand, apply, and communicate current technical information to work problems.
- Knowledge of pricing tools, systems, and processes, and the ability to articulate their underlying principles and philosophies.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Adaptable and flexible to change.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Progress towards or completion of insurance-related courses such as LOMA and/or FALU, FLMI, and ACS designations.
- A university or college degree in a related discipline is an asset.
- Bilingual (French & English) is an asset. If in Québec, the candidate must communicate in both languages to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec.
