Are you our next Underground Electrical Engineer?
The position provides safe and effective electrical engineering services for underground and will be responsible for electrical engineering, automation, and communication services. The position will act as project lead for all underground electrical capital projects. The position will work closely with a team of Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability personnel to monitor asset reliability results and address issues hindering reliability as well as provide electrical engineering, reliability, and process subject matter expertise to a team of peers developing and deploying reliability improvements.
This role will be highly focused on control system design, integration and management. Responsible SME for electrical infrastructure equipment, including protection and controls, ranging from final utilization voltage (600V) to high voltage (4.16kV/13.8kV).
Coordinate power system study activities. Complete minor updates to power system models work with third party vendors.
What will you do?
- Estimate, plan, specify, design, review/approve of any/all consultant proposals, and supervise the installation or modification of all projects
- Identify practical, economic solutions to electrical and instrumentation engineering requirements with the objective of increased effectiveness and overall operations efficiency. Develop and review predictive and preventative maintenance programs. Initiate capital appropriation requests, work orders, and requisitions. Conduct electrical product research for up to date knowledge of engineering and maintenance developments.
- Provide engineering and technical assistance or guidance to supervisors, crews or contractors, on or off site, as required
- Promote health and safety, teamwork, leadership and good supervisory and employee relations through example. All projects are evaluated to ensure that any hazards to workers, the public, the environment or the integrity of the physical plant, will be minimized through project design parameters
- Identify deficiencies in maintenance processes and develop sustainable improvement. Apply and optimize PM / PdM activities to drive improvement in asset mean time between failures. Provide prioritized asset assessments that support the 5-year capital planning process.
- Track site specific downtime to identify reliability improvement opportunities and utilize Root Cause Analysis processes to review failures and identify corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence. Provide trouble shooting support to maintenance and operations process knowledge required for effective problem solving.
- Collaborate with maintenance planning teams to develop key field service maintenance scopes for regular maintenance, and annual turnarounds and peers to develop asset strategies, pursue consistency between sites and share best practices/experiences. Deploy and execute on asset strategies and monitor results to continually refine and improve asset health management. Assist with supervision of field service contractors. Interpretate test results and ensure follow up actions are tracked and completed.
- Conduct audits and inspections. Coordinate power system study activities. Complete minor updates to power system models.
- Review and authorize work permits; development of lock-out-tag-out plans.

What do you need for this role?
- Bachelor's degree required, major in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with accreditation from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
- Engineer III
- 4+ years or more of related experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in multi team roles.
- Engineer Senior
- 8+ years or more of related experience.
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Proven communication skills both verbal and written, extremely organized, good interpersonal skills, cooperative, able to work with and lead cross-functional teams
- Must demonstrate ability to influence others; and build team atmosphere.
- Working familiarity with RCM and FMEA
- Experience with operation and maintenance of high voltage switchgear (gas, air, and metal-enclosed), transformers (oil-filled and dry-type), and other industrial electrical infrastructure is an asset
- Working knowledge of power system protection and coordination. Protection and coordination with SEL and/or GE relaying and SCADA is an asset.
- Experience with underground mining power systems is an asset for potash
