Are you our next Lead Engineer?

The Mechanical Integrity Lead Structural Engineer serves as the responsible engineering authority for the mechanical integrity structural program supporting Mosaic’s Saskatchewan potash operations. This role is accountable for ensuring structural assets are safe to operate, risks are effectively identified and managed, and engineering decisions related to inspection, repair, and life extension are technically sound, defensible, and well documented.

The Lead Structural Engineer provides technical leadership across sites, owns the structural Risk Based Inspection (RBI) program, and partners with Maintenance, Capital, Procurement, and Operations to ensure long term asset integrity and regulatory compliance. This position plays a critical role in communicating asset health, risk exposure, and mitigation strategies to site and corporate leadership.

What will you do?
Structural Integrity Leadership & Engineering Authority
  • Act as the engineering decision authority for structural integrity, including interpretation of inspection results, non‑conformance disposition, fitness‑for‑service evaluations, and repair recommendations.
  • Ensure structural assets are maintained in a safe‑to‑operate condition in alignment with Mosaic’s risk management framework and tolerance criteria.
  • Provide authoritative technical guidance to site leadership on asset conditions, risk exposure, and mitigation strategies.
Risk‑Based Inspection & Program Ownership
  • Own and govern the structural Risk Based Inspection (RBI) program for Saskatchewan sites, ensuring inspection strategies, frequencies, and methodologies are appropriate for asset criticality, deterioration mechanisms, and operational risk.
  • Evaluate inspection data, degradation trends, and repair effectiveness; document residual risk and lead risk acceptance or escalation where required.
  • Direct internal and third‑party inspection activities, ensuring scopes, quality, and deliverables meet Mosaic expectations.
Governance, Standards & Compliance
  • Serve as structural integrity program steward, ensuring consistency with Mosaic engineering standards, applicable CSA standards, National Building Code of Canada, and Saskatchewan regulatory requirements.
  • Provide authoritative interpretation of structural codes and standards.
  • Support corporate audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance verifications as required.
Asset Strategy, Capital & Maintenance Integration
  • Lead the development of structural asset strategies, including recommendation of maintenance repair, temporary mitigation, or capital replacement solutions.
  • Collaborate with Sustaining Capital and Maintenance teams to identify assets requiring repair, strengthening, or replacement and provide technical justification for capital escalation.
  • Create capital intake requests and support long‑term asset renewal planning.
Project Oversight & Execution
  • Provide technical governance through all phases of project execution in accordance with Mosaic’s CPM Road Map, from engineering design through construction and commissioning.
  • Review and approve structural designs, repair concepts, and construction methodologies to ensure alignment with engineering intent and safety requirements.
  • Present weekly and monthly reports to leadership covering asset health, project progress, cost, schedule, and risk.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Own and maintain the site structural asset database and Asset Health Register, ensuring data integrity and meaningful risk trending.
  • Define, track, and report key performance indicators related to inspection coverage, deficiency backlog, remediation effectiveness, and overall structural integrity performance.
Procurement & Contractor Management
  • Lead technical development of scopes of work for inspections and engineering services.
  • Support RFQ/RFP development, evaluate technical submissions, assess contractor competency, and ensure quality of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Procurement on contract execution and invoice approval.
Technical Leadership & Capability Building
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching to Mechanical Integrity Engineers, inspectors, planners, and coordinators.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, training programs, and knowledge transfer across Saskatchewan sites and global structural engineering peers.
Safety Leadership
  • Act as a visible safety leader, ensuring health and safety principles are integrated into engineering design, inspection planning, project execution, and future asset use.
  • Champion hazard identification, risk mitigation, and learning from incidents to support an injury‑free workplace.
  • Deliver projects with the expectation of zero injuries across all phases.
Travel requirement
  • 10-20% travel to Belle Plaine and Colonsay sites for field work.
What do you need for this role?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Mechanical considered with significant structural integrity experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering and mechanical integrity within heavy industrial, mining, or brownfield operating environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk‑based inspection programs, structural degradation mechanisms, repair design, and asset life‑extension strategies.
  • Strong project management experience across Engineering, Procurement, and Construction phases.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Project, structural analysis tools (e.g., STAAD Pro), and SAP S/4HANA or similar systems.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities independently while collaborating across multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Saskatchewan, in good standing.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting multiple operating sites within a standardized mechanical integrity framework.
  • Experience interacting with regulators, auditors, or corporate assurance functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing engineering standards or governance practices.
