Job summary

Symbiotic Digital in Toronto is seeking an experienced UX Designer to create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing digital experiences across web and mobile. The role involves researching, designing, prototyping, testing, and refining interfaces to enhance user satisfaction and business outcomes.

You will collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, lead UX workshops, and translate research into wireframes, flows and prototypes for a wide range of devices.

We are seeking an experienced UX Designer to create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing digital experiences. The successful candidate will leverage user-centered design methodologies to research, design, prototype, test, and refine interfaces that enhance user satisfaction and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces.
  
• Design the overall functionality of digital products to ensure an exceptional user experience and continuously iterate based on user testing.
  
• Design user interfaces for digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
  
• Apply a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and refine designs.
  
• Conduct user research activities including interviews, surveys, and usability testing.
  
• Translate research findings into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
  
• Deliver wireframes, user stories, user flows, user journeys, mockups, and prototypes optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  
• Facilitate product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.
  
• Identify design challenges and develop effective, user-centered solutions.
  
• Make strategic design and user experience decisions related to existing and emerging product features.
  
• Gather and incorporate user feedback to improve existing interfaces.
  
• Collaborate effectively with stakeholders, business users, developers, QA specialists, and cross-functional teams.
  
• Lead UX initiatives, design workshops, and stakeholder alignment sessions.
  
• Manage end-to-end user research from participant recruitment through synthesis and recommendation development.
  

Qualifications

General Skills

• Relevant experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
  
• Experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, Interactive Designer, or similar role designing web and mobile applications.
  
• Ability to define and lead UX projects and design workshops.
  
• Experience managing end-to-end user research activities.
  
• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools.
  
• Thorough understanding of web development technologies and their limitations.
  
• Experience designing online programs with an emphasis on human-centered experiences.
  
• Strong expertise in user research, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.
  
• Experience facilitating product vision and translating concepts into intuitive user experiences.
  
• Experience identifying design problems and developing elegant solutions.
  
• Experience making strategic UX and design decisions.
  
• Experience gathering and analyzing user feedback.
  
• Strong organizational skills with experience managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  
• Experience with Figma, Canva, and similar design tools.
  

Communication Skills

• Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation.
  
• Strong communication and presentation skills for explaining design concepts to diverse audiences.
  
• Experience working collaboratively with developers, QA teams, business stakeholders, and project teams.
  
• Demonstrated success in collaborative team environments.
  
• Knowledge of accessibility testing methodologies.
  
• Experience working with the Ontario Design System.
  
• Knowledge of Digital Service Standards.
  
• Experience solving complex design challenges involving legacy systems.
  
• Experience designing accessible solutions that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
  

Preferred Experience

• Previous public sector experience.
  
• Experience working within government or large enterprise environments.
  

Work Arrangement

• 5 days onsite.
