Job summary

NAV CANADA in Ottawa seeks a TSS Course Maintenance Specialist to develop, maintain, validate, and support simulation-based training products and environments used across NAV CANADA. The role defines simulator requirements, develops and updates exercises, and conducts validation and testing to ensure simulators accurately reflect operational environments and training objectives.

Working closely with instructors, operational stakeholders and technology partners, the Specialist supports simulation

• 3+ years designing and maintaining databases and simulation exercises.
• Experience troubleshooting simulation platforms.
• Experience providing technical guidance or training to others.
• Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering projects on time.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, execute, and enhance simulation exercises and documentation, ensuring standardization and conformance to policies, standards and criteria, Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS), and Systems Approach to Training.
• Coordinate, prepare, distribute, and support simulation and simulator materials to regional training units, ensuring standardization.
• Recommend and develop operational simulation exercises and requirements for NAV CANADA operational training units in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and criteria.
• Provide support to regional training units in the delivery, monitoring and assessment of simulation training initiatives and simulator support.
• Test and document new learning technology hardware and software.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, ATS Learning Technology, the TSS Course Maintenance Specialist develops, maintains, validates, and supports simulation-based training products and environments used across NAV CANADA. The role is responsible for defining simulator requirements, developing and updating simulation exercises and databases, assessing the impact of operational and technology changes, and conducting validation and acceptance testing to ensure simulators accurately represent operational environments and meet training objectives. Working closely with operational stakeholders, instructors, and technology partners, the Specialist supports simulation delivery, technology implementation, and the continuous improvement of training systems and technology standards.

Key Accountabilities

• Develop, maintain, execute, and enhance simulation exercises and documentation, ensuring standardization and conformance to policies, standards and criteria, Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS), and Systems Approach to Training.
• Coordinate, prepare, distribute, and support simulation and simulator materials to regional training units, ensuring standardization.
• Recommend and develop operational simulation exercises and requirements for NAV CANADA operational training units in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and criteria.
• Provide support to regional training units in the delivery, monitoring and assessment of simulation training initiatives and simulator support.
• Test and document new learning technology hardware and software.
• Perform other related duties relevant to the operational and technical training programs.

Education

• Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent.

Experience

• 3+ years of varied experience in the design, development and maintenance of databases, simulation exercises, or basic simulator administration functions.
• Experience troubleshooting, resolving, and reporting technical issues related to simulation platforms.
• Experience providing technical guidance or training to others.
• Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering projects on time.

Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of all aspects of the Air Traffic Services system including procedures and techniques and an operating knowledge of all equipment gained through successful completion of formal training courses and experience.
• Strong knowledge of simulator databases including related exercise production and editing files.
• Knowledge of operating systems including Windows and Unix.
• Knowledge of operating characteristics of operational systems and input / output devices.
• Knowledge of airspace, organization and procedures of ATC/FSS operations, including High/Low Level, Terminal, Oceanic, and Arctic units.
• Current knowledge of aircraft performance and airmanship.

Working conditions

Occasional travel required. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days per week on site required.
