Job summary

Hansen's Group of Companies in Pickering, Ontario, invites a skilled Truck Mechanic - Lead Hand to join JEMM TRUCK & TRAILER Inc. team on site. The role involves leading the afternoon shift, mentoring apprentices, diagnosing and repairing commercial trucks, and coordinating parts and maintenance tasks.

The ideal candidate has a 310T license, college/technical training, and a valid driver’s license, with strong problem solving and teamwork to ensure top-notch workmanship and safety.

Qualifications

• Completion of college/vocational or technical training.
• 310T License is required.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Proven mechanical abilities in commercial truck repairs.
• Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
• Experience with routine maintenance operations.
• Good written and spoken communication; meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead the afternoon shift and mentor apprentice mechanics.
• Prepare work orders and respond to calls.
• Communicate with customers when vehicles are completed.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair commercial trucks and equipment.
• Install new and added-on equipment.
• Weld repairs and fabricate on vehicles and machinery.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs.
• Monitor parts usage and report materials used.
• Assist in ordering replacement parts and supplies.
• Complete work orders accurately; test repaired equipment.
• Maintain safe working conditions per regulations.

The Truck Mechanic - Lead Hand is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair, and maintenance of trucks and general equipment. The expectation is that you must be able to analyze, troubleshoot, dismantle, align, assemble, and adjust mechanical equipment and machinery to maintain it in efficient operating condition. Work assignments will be received in the form of verbal or written work orders and you will be expected to determine the nature and extent of repairs to be completed.

Job Duties

• Lead the afternoon shift - mentor apprentice mechanics
• Prepare work orders
• Answer and respond to phone calls
• Communicate with customers when vehicles are completed
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair commercial trucks and equipment
• Install new and added-on equipment
• Complete welding repairs, and fabrication on vehicles and machinery
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs to trucks and equipment
• Monitor parts usage and report on any materials used
• Assist in ordering replacement parts and supplies
• Accurate completion of work orders
• Test equipment repaired for proper performance
• Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
• Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques
• Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
• Perform in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Perform other mechanical repair work as required

Job Requirements

• Completion of college/vocational or technical training
• 310T License
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Proven mechanical abilities in commercial truck repairs

Work Conditions
