Job summary

Autism Services in Canada is seeking a skilled truck driver to support long-haul and provincial routes with a tractor-trailer rig.

The role requires a Class 1/1F/A licence, a clean driving record, and the ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, manage cargo documents, and ensure safety. You must be willing to relocate and work in a physically demanding environment.

Qualifications

• Class 1/1F/A licence required and a clean driving record.
• Experience with tractor-trailer operations and cargo handling.
• Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain records.
• Willingness to relocate and work long-haul routes.
• Experience with freight documentation and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Plan or adjust routes using GPS to minimize fuel consumption.
• Oversee vehicle condition and inspect tires, lights, brakes and equipment.
• Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections.
• Record cargo information, hours, distance and fuel usage.
• Tarpaulin and secure cargo; transport dangerous goods if needed.
• Maintain driver logbook and comply with safety regulations.

Tasks

• Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
• Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
• Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
• Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
• Transport and handle dangerous goods
