Job summary

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division No.77 is seeking Spare School Bus Drivers to transport students on an on-call basis across Wildwood, Evansburg, Niton, Edson, Hinton, Jasper and Grande Cache in Alberta. Start dates are immediate or mutually agreed, and the assignment continues until June 29, 2027.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s license.
• Physical ability to perform required duties, and pass a functional assessment.
• No experience required—we provide the necessary training; courses held monthly.

Responsibilities

• Transport students to and from school on an on-call, day-to-day basis.
• Meet safety and performance standards for student transportation.
• Maintain vehicle readiness and adhere to division policies during routes.

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) is the third largest geographical school division in Alberta, spanning a vast area from Evansburg west along the Yellowhead Highway to Jasper, and north to Grande Cache. Operated from the Education Services Centre in Edson, the transportation department manages 54 school bus routes across five distinct zones within Yellowhead County, safely transporting over 2,200 students and covering more than 8,000 kilometers daily.

To ensure continuous, reliable operations across this extensive network, the Division employs Spare Drivers on a day-to-day basis to safely transport students to and from school in the absence of Permanent Full-Time School Bus Drivers.

The Division

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 15 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff.

In accordance with Board Policy, the successful applicant will be required to provide the following:

• A current Alberta Government Child Intervention Record Check
