Job summary

Prairie Valley School Division is seeking a Bus Driver to provide safe school transportation and support student development. You will operate a school bus and work with the team to ensure timely, secure travel to school and activities.

Required are a Saskatchewan Class 1-5 license and a School Bus Endorsement; training is available for non-licensed drivers. A clean driving abstract and medicals per regulations are essential, with First Aid certification preferred or obtainable through the

Qualifications

  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's License.
  • School Bus Endorsement required; training available for non-licensed drivers.
  • Clean driving abstract with no major infractions; SGI abstracts must be submitted.
  • Satisfactory medical examinations as per The Highway Traffic Act.
  • First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one at the division's expense.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and activities.
  • Work as part of a team to support student growth and development.
  • Load and unload students, including wheelchair requirements.
  • Follow CUPE agreement and district policies.
  • Adhere to Highway Traffic Act and road conditions.

Job description

Job Purpose: Bus Driver is responsible to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and school-related activities, working as part of a team to contribute to the growth and development of children and youth.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to safely and confidently operate a school bus
  • Good working knowledge of The Highway and Transportation Act and The Traffic Safety Act
  • Good working knowledge of the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook and Saskatchewan Commercial Driver's Handbook
  • Good understanding of, and ability to apply, a range of student behaviour strategies focused on positive reinforcement of desired behaviour
  • Demonstrated patience, maturity and experience working with children
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications:

  • Must hold and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's License
  • Must hold a valid School Bus Endorsement
    • training is available for non-licensed school bus drivers
  • Clear driver's abstract, with no major infractions
    • A current Driver's Abstract from SGI detailing all (personal and commercial) driving records for the last 5 years must be submitted with your application
    • A copy of the abstract can be:
      • uploaded to your online application,
      • emailed to transportation@pvsd.ca or
      • faxed to 306-543-1771.
  • Satisfactory medical examinations in accordance with The Highway Traffic Act
  • First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain one at Prairie Valley School Division's expense.

Working Conditions:

  • Full time bus routes are paid at daily base rate of $58.63 plus a per km rate calculated at $0.23/km
  • 100% employer paid health benefits plan

  • Drivers with young children may take their children with them on the bus
  • Subject to CUPE Agreement
  • Commencing August 28, 2026 and ending December 18, 2026 or upon return of incumbent, whichever is earlier. There is a possibility for an extension.
  • Working in varied climates and differing road conditions
  • Physical ability to load and unload students in wheelchairs may be required.
