Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve all safety, service, and cost targets in the Transportation department.
  • Responsible for the planning and coordinating transportation activities.
  • Optimizing routes and schedules.
  • Must be an expert with DOT compliance and regulations.
  • Must be knowledgeable of safety standards.
  • Manage transportation budgets and costs.
  • Monitor and improve transportation performance.
  • Supervise transportation staff.
  • Lead with a safety mindset that ensures that every Vitco Foods employee, our customers, and the public with whom our drivers interact remain injury free, always. Safety procedures, processes and training to create and maintain a safety-first culture in the Transportation department.
  • Build high-performing teams by reviewing staffing requirements and monitoring interviewing and hiring for all of transportation’s openings. Review performance, coach to achieve service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action.
  • Analyze daily performance measures; identify any weaknesses; and recommend changes to the Director of Operations to ensure that productivity objectives are achieved.
  • Other duties assigned.

Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files:

  • Investigate all accidents, maintain an accident file, track causes, and take appropriate preventative action.
  • Effectively schedule working shifts by leveraging appropriate planning tools (i.e., Microsoft Excel) to ensure all shifts are covered and deliveries depart on a timely basis.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in transportation distribution required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years as a manager (most recent position) - a must.
  • Commercial License would be helpful but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.

Knowledge of the following would be helpful:

  • Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures.

· TARGET data system (WMS),

· BFC (WMS) – routing and pallet building,

· Descartes - Routing Software,

· Geotab - fleet management and ELD (HOS),

· Samba Safety,

· Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Physical Requirements:

· Required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit.
