Job summary

Surrey Schools (School District #36 Surrey) is seeking a Drywaller Tradesperson to support renovations, repairs and new installations across over 140 district sites and offices. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Maintenance within Facilities, you will work as part of a cohesive team, or independently, to deliver top-quality work.

Qualifications

  • Interprovincial TQ in Drywalling with Red Seal endorsement is required.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent plus apprenticeship training is required.
  • WHMIS, WCB safety knowledge and district safety policies are required.
  • Four years' recent hands-on drywalling experience is required.
  • Ability to supervise trades helpers and coordinate work.

Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Maintenance within the Facilities Division, the Drywaller Tradesperson is responsible for a variety of projects including renovations, repairs and new installations in over 140 school district sites and offices.

The department requires applicants to be prepared to work effectively in a small team as well as independently to complete top quality work in various District facilities.

This Drywaller Tradesperson position works 7:00 to 3:00, Monday to Friday, however, shift times may vary with some afternoon work.
The successful applicant will have access to top-quality tools and equipment, a well-maintained fleet of vehicles and the beautiful District Facilities Centre located in the heart of Surrey.

Applicants Must Have
  • An interprovincial trades qualification (TQ) in Drywalling with a Red Seal endorsement;
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license;
  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent plus completion of apprenticeship training from a vocational institute recognized by the district in the applicable trade;
  • Four years' recent practical experience as a tradesperson in the applicable trade, or an equivalent level of training and experience;
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of trade standard practices, methods, technology, tools, equipment, by-laws, regulations and codes applicable to the work performed;
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks related to the construction, repair, maintenance, renovation and operation of school/District facilities;
  • Ability to layout, assign, coordinate, assist, direct and monitor the work of Trades Helpers, contractors, labourers, and other trades, where applicable;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions accurately with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated skill in the correct and safe use of tools and equipment utilized in the trade. Ability to operate computer equipment and applicable software.
  • Ability to analyze and solve trade related problems;
  • An interprovincial trades qualification (TQ) in Drywalling with a Red Seal endorsement;
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, WCB occupational health and safety regulations and District safe work practices, policies and procedures to perform work requirements within the trade.

This is a unionized position that offers an hourly wage rate of $40.65 plus benefits package: municipal pension, health, vacation & sick benefits. Effective date per collective agreement.
