Job summary

Surrey Schools is seeking an HVAC/Mechanical Tradesperson to join our Facilities Mechanical Maintenance team across 140 sites. The role covers renovations, repairs and new installations and reports to the Manager of Mechanical Maintenance within the Facilities Division.

The successful candidate will hold a BCTQ in an applicable trade (Millwright, Gas Fitter or Refrigeration), a Class B Gas Ticket, knowledge of direct digital control (DDC) and a valid BC driver's license.

Qualifications

• BCTQ in an applicable trade (Millwright, Gas Fitter or Refrigeration) or related with HVAC/Mechanical experience.
• Class B Gas Ticket (Class A or electrical endorsement a bonus)
• Knowledge of direct digital control (DDC)
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's license
• Sufficient physical strength and health to perform duties

Responsibilities

• Renovations, repairs and new installations in over 140 school district sites and offices.
• Work as part of a cohesive team or independently to deliver top quality work.
• Utilize top-quality tools and equipment in a dynamic Facilities environment.

Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Maintenance within the Facilities Division, the HVAC/Mechanical Tradesperson is responsible for a variety of projects including renovations, repairs and new installations in over 140 school district sites and offices. The successful applicant must be a team-player ready to be part of a cohesive, effective team of professionals in this busy department of A & B Gasfitters, Plumbers, HVACR Mechanics, who hold great pride in their work. The department requires applicants to be prepared to work effectively in a small team as well as independently to complete top quality work in various District facilities. Experience and training in institutional facilities is a bonus!

Surrey Schools prides itself on providing our facilities staff with excellent work-life balance. This Mechanical Tradesperson position works 7:00 to 3:00, Monday to Friday, however shift times may vary with some afternoon work. The successful applicant will have access to top-quality tools and equipment, a well-maintained fleet of vehicles and the beautiful District Facilities Centre located in the heart of Surrey.

Applicants must have:

• BCTQ in an applicable trade ideally Millwright, Gas Fitter or Refrigeration or other trade supplemented with experience in a variety of HVAC/Mechanical work;
• Must hold a Class “B” Gas Ticket (bonus if you hold a Class “A” ticket or an electrical endorsement!)
• Knowledge of direct digital control (DDC)
• A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license
• Sufficient physical strength and health to perform the duties of the position are required

This is a unionized position that offers an hourly wage rate of $40.65 plus benefits package: municipal pension, health, vacation & sick benefits. Effective date per collective agreement.
