Job summary

IKO Industries Ltd. is seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist to ensure cross-border shipments meet all reporting requirements.

Based in Mississauga, this full-time role involves maintaining tariff classifications, liaising with brokers, and guiding internal teams to stay compliant with evolving regulations. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in customs/trade operations, strong knowledge of USMCA and international customs, and experience in JD Edwards or similar ERP.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of Customs and Trade operations experience.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory policies for cross-border shipments.
  • Knowledge of Trade Agreements (USMCA) and international customs law.
  • Proficient in an advanced ERP environment (JD Edwards).
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain master tariff classification lists with supporting documents.
  • Coordinate with secondary suppliers to determine trade status of products.
  • Provide required paperwork to end-users as needed.
  • Liaise with Brokers and Supply Chain to move goods across borders smoothly.
  • Manage inquiries and audits with CBSA and US CBP authorities.
  • Respond to inquiries on classification, duty rates, and documentation.
  • Ensure accurate electronic filings with brokers and government agencies.
  • Monitor changes in cross-border shipment rules to maintain compliant practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory adherence.

Job Description

The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring we maintain compliance with all cross-border shipments and are current on all reporting requirements. This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in our Mississauga office.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive compensation/pay package - $90,000-$120,000.

  • Maintain a master list of tariff classifications including supporting documentation for classification
  • Contact secondary suppliers to determine the trade status of purchased products
  • Supply required paperwork to end-user customers when required
  • Liaise with Brokers and Supply Chain to ensure the smooth movement of goods across borders
  • Manage all inquiries and audit requests with CBSA and US CBP
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import-related matters
  • Ensure data integrity with all electronic filings with brokers and government agencies for shipment activity
  • Be a champion for upcoming and significant changes in cross-border shipment reporting to ensure we maintain our favored trading status
  • Continuously monitor evolving rules and guidelines with government agencies, assessing the impact on all IKO companies and ensuring we are proactively responding to changes to remain compliant
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum 5 years of Customs and Trade operations experience, preferably in manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of the requirements to maintain compliance with all regulatory policies for cross-border shipments
  • Strong technical knowledge of Trade Agreements (USMCA etc.) and international customs legislation, compliance, and security practices
  • Proficient working in an advanced ERP environment (preferably JDE experience) along with advanced MSOffice functionality
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) is an asset
  • Established hands‑on experience in dealing with Canadian and US customs authorities
  • Detail-focused and committed to meeting challenging deadlines and remaining current on all regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with both external and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance
