Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Third Class Operating Engineer for Toronto Western Hospital, Facility Management Services. This permanent full-time position handles operation and maintenance of building automation, boiler/chiller plants and related systems, with a 37.5-hour week. The wage is $42.97 per hour (start rate non-negotiable).

Reports to Chief Engineer & Manager, Facilities Operations. Closing date is August 13, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Grade XII or equivalent.
  • Ontario Third Class Stationary Engineer's Certificate.
  • Two years related experience preferable in a hospital environment.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electric HVAC schematics.
  • Experience with the operations of a facilities Building Automation System (BAS) an asset.
  • Must have keyboard and have basic computer skills an asset.
  • Electro/mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and troubling shooting calls from various departments.

Duties

In compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, the principal responsibilities of the Third Class Operating Engineer include:

  • Operate and Maintain the building automation system, boiler and chiller plant, fire alarm, pneumatic tube, medical gas, other mechanical/electrical systems or equipment
  • Respond to and troubling shooting calls from various departments.
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade XII or equivalent
  • Ontario Third Class Stationary Engineer's Certificate
  • Two years related experience preferable in a hospital environment
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English
