Job summary

Peel Region is seeking a Tenancy Support Agent to be the main on-site contact for tenancy inquiries from application through end of tenancy at Peel Living properties in Mississauga, ON.

The role requires a Post-Secondary Diploma in a human services field with 3+ years of customer service experience; travel between sites is required. The position is a two-contract (up to 13 months) with a hybrid work mode and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in a human services related field with at least three (3) years of customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of Housing Operations and Management Services practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant tenancy and privacy legislation.
  • Ability to travel between sites and access to reliable transportation.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required (Region of Peel does not reimburse any costs).

Responsibilities

  • Handle tenancy enquiries from application to end of tenancy on-site.
  • Develop relationships with tenants to empower and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with health, client relationships and external agencies to resolve tenancy matters.
  • Identify tenant needs and refer to internal/external partners as appropriate.
  • Coordinate tenant meetings and maintain tenancy records.

Two Contract Full Time role up to 13 months

Hiring Range: $71,549 - $80,493 per year plus comprehensive benefits

Work Mode: Hybrid* (up to 4-5 days onsite depending on operational needs)

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON (Travel will be required to do onsite visits at Peel Living buildings)

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Who we are:Peel Housing Corporation provides safe, well maintained living environments for tenants in Peel Living and Region of Peel owned properties including: 71 residential properties, two transitional housing residences and three emergency shelters. These services contribute to a positive experience for residents and enhance neighbourhoods where the buildings are located.

What you will do in this role:

  • Primary on-site/in person contact for tenancy enquiries from application to end of tenancy
  • Build and maintain on-going relationships with tenants to engage and empower them to resolve issues and participate in their communities
  • Provide education, community resources, support and guidance to tenants Work in collaboration with other regional staff (e.g. Health Services, Client Relationships, etc.) and external agencies to resolve tenancy matters (e.g. unit rentals, outstanding arrears, rent calculations)
  • Engage tenant to identify their needs and work with internal/external partners and community agencies to make appropriate referrals and advocate when required
  • Initiate, coordinate and facilitate tenant meetings as required
  • Lead and carry out plans related to tenant matters with applicable legislation, policies and procedures (i.e. Site Security Reports, complaints, tenancy records, Tenant Annual Reviews, internal transfers, non-rent related tenancy agreements, etc.)
  • Attend Tribunal Hearings/Small Claims Court on behalf ofHousing Operations and Management Services
  • Document and maintain accurate records of all communications
  • Establish professional relationships with community support agencies to support vulnerable and high risk tenancies
  • Investigate and respond to political enquiries
  • Prepare customized formal notices, forms and letters as required

What the role requires:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in a human services related field with at least three (3) years of customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures within the Housing Operations and Management Services area
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act, Housing Services Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and other relevant legislation
  • General understanding of issues impacting tenants including mental health, poverty, aging and multiculturalism
  • Ability to travel between sites and access to reliable source of transportation
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required (Region of Peel does not reimburse any costs)

Nice to have:

  • Housing Operations and Management Services experience would be an asset

  • Demonstrate commitment to continuously improve quality of service to tenants
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, emphasizing effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and in an integrated team environment and possess strong organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion and problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Applications
