Job summary

Aurora Virtual School in Whitehorse seeks a Temporary Teacher - Humanities 8 and 9 to deliver online and in-person learning from October 2, 2026 to December 18, 2026. The role includes teaching Humanities 8/9 online and supporting Async High School courses, plus in-person Learning Assistance.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor of Education with coursework in English and Social Studies and have experience with virtual learning, online content, and Yukon First Nations pedagogy.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent with coursework in English and Social Studies;
• Experience in teaching English and Social Studies in an alternative program – with specific ability to facilitate experiential progamming;
• Experience leveraging place-based, experiential, inquiry-based programming,
• Experience teaching in a virtual learning environment;
• Experience developing and delivering on-line content;
• Awareness of Yukon First Nation pedagogy and curriculum (skills and content).
• Knowledge of challenges facing students in small / remote settings;
• Experience in program design, curriculum adaptation, and differentiated teaching / learning would be an asset;
• Experience using live web and video conferencing tools to deliver real-time lessons to remote learners would be an asset;

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• Strong competency in a variety of current technologies and online strategies using both LMS and Non-LMS tools
• Ability to be flexible and deliver "student centered" programming
• Knowledge and understanding of critical competencies of Grade 8 – 12 curricula.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with administrators and staff of other schools, consultants, and community agencies;
• Knowledge and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population;
• Openness to flexible work hours;
• Ability to engage students through a variety of on-line methods is essential.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector;to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• This position involves both online instruction and in-person responseabilities.
• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.
