Selkirk Elementary School in Whitehorse, Yukon, is seeking a Temporary Teacher LAT for a 1.0 FTE assignment. 0.8 LAT in Grade 4/5 French Immersion and 0.2 Grade 4/5 English/French, start ASAP, end June 11, 2027. Must hold B.Ed. or equivalent and Yukon teaching certification; fully bilingual in French and English.

You will work within a collaborative team, deliver inclusive instruction, and support students with differentiated literacy and numeracy plans in a vibrant school community.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with qualifications Grades K to 7
Fully bilingual written and spoken French and English
Recent successful teaching experience in a K-8 setting
Learning Assistance experience is an asset
Experience with multidisciplinary teams, IEP/Student Learning/Behaviour/Safety plans is an asset
Knowledge of structured literacy and numeracy coaching is an asset

Selkirk Elementary School is a dual track English/French elementary school, Grades K - 7 with a student population of approximately 340. Key to Selkirk Elementary School’s philosophy is the incorporation of social emotional learning, developmentally responsive practice, and structured literacy and numeracy programming

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with qualifications Grades K to 7;
Fully Bilingual written and spoken French and English language;
Demonstrates recent successful teaching experience in a K-8 educational setting;
Learning Assistance experience serving diverse populations is an asset;
Teaching experience working with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate plans such as, Individual Education Plans, Student Learning Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, and Safety Plans is an asset;
Understands structured literacy and numeracy programs and can coach classroom teachers is an asset;

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

Knowledge of effective instructional practices in structured literacy and numeracy including the ability to apply assessment for, as and of student learning within an inclusive French Immersion context;
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations Ways of Knowing and Doing, and the ability to meaningfully integrate these perspectives into educational, organizational, or community practices.
Ability to provide positive intervention with a developmentally responsive approach including establishment of appropriate teacher/student relationships;
Effective classroom management, planning, and organization skills;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration, other staff members, and consultants;
Ability to support targeted intervention with students by utilizing diagnostic assessments and to develop scaffold interventions based on data;
Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;
