Job summary

Canada's Island Garden is seeking a Temporary Packaging Technician to operate in a Health Canada regulated packaging environment. You will weigh, label, package, sample and inspect cannabis products, ensuring accuracy and quality in every order.

The role is full-time, hourly, for a 3-month contract with a daytime schedule (Mon-Fri, 8:00am–4:30pm), requiring attention to safety, cleanliness, and compliance with SOPs. Candidates must be 19+, and able to pass a criminal record check.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; must be 19+ and able to provide a clear criminal record.
  • Experience in regulated packaging is a strong asset.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks in a sterile packaging environment with focus.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately package cannabis products per regulations and SOPs.
  • Maintain QC and packaging equipment.
  • Oversee inventory levels of bulk and prepackaged products.
  • Record inventory data in tracking system accurately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility in the processing area.
  • Assist cultivation with hand-harvesting as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Overall Job Purpose

Reporting directly to the Packaging Team Leads, the Temporary Packaging Technician(s) work in and maintain standards of a Health Canada regulated packaging environment and will assist in all aspects of preparing cannabis for final sale once it is ready to be packed, ensuring orders are done accurately and in a timely manner and maintaining high quality standards. This process includes accurately weighing, labeling, packaging, sampling, and inspecting company products in accordance with the Standard Operational Procedures.

This is a hardworking, hands‑on, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves environment emphasizing a team‑oriented and collaborative style. It will be key for the candidate to embrace change and see past obstacles with a focus on solutions in the context of a company undergoing rapid growth and ongoing functional integration.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to
  • Accurately package cannabis flower, pre‑rolls, and oils, ensuring compliance with provincial/federal regulations and company policies and procedures
  • Responsible for Quality Control and maintenance of all packaging equipment
  • Aid in the oversight of inventory of bulk and prepackaged products. Set up appropriate inventory levels, ensure proper quantity of packages/products
  • Making sure all labeling and recording of inventory data into inventory tracking system is done in compliance Company regulations and procedures
  • Maintain the highest levels of cleanliness and sterility inside the processing area
  • Hand‑harvesting cannabis product, providing support to cultivation departments as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Details

Rate of Pay: $18.00 per hour

Position Status: Full-Time, Hourly, 3-month Contract Temporary Position

Schedule: Regularly 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday (subject to change, occasional additional shiftwork as per operational requirements)

Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including but not limited to; pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50lbs), bending, walking, and standing/sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to withstand repetitive twisting motion of the body for long periods of time
  • Ability to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to medical gloves, safety eyewear, face masks, half‑mask respirator (face must be clean shaven to ensure proper protection) etc.
Environmental Demands
  • Sterile cannabis product packaging environment
  • Ability to work in an environment that uses cleaning products including, but not limited to, Isopropyl Alcohol, Ethanol, and residue cleaning products like AM717, Caustek‑Free, and Formula‑19.
  • This position may involve exposure to cannabis materials and is therefore not likely suitable for anyone that may suffer from allergies to cannabis materials, or for anyone that experiences medical issues as a result of exposure to cannabis materials
The ideal candidate has
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Experience in regulated packaging and/or a related field is viewed as a strong asset
  • A positive attitude and enjoys working in a team
  • Meticulous attention to detail in repetitive tasks
  • The ability to work in a results‑oriented, time‑sensitive environment
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Access to reliable transportation to work full‑time hours as scheduled (40 hours per week)
  • Must have the ability to provide a criminal record check that is clear of any charges that could be related or have a direct correlation to the position or company
  • All employees must be 19+
