Position details: The Laboratory Technician performs sampling and routine testing to determine the chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid and liquid materials to ensure process and quality control measures are effective. The Lab Technician follows all policies and procedures to ensure that work exceeds the requirements of “Good Laboratory Practices” and maintains a reliable and efficient analytical laboratory environment.

This is a 12-month contract position with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Perform physical and chemical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Verify that test results conform to product and customer specifications.
  • Ensure timely delivery of test results, issue certificates of analysis, file testing information, and maintain analysis databases.
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Follow lab safety regulations at all times, including proper use of personal protective equipment and fume hoods.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate lab equipment such as chromatographs, balances, and refractometers.
  • Calibrate lab instruments regularly.
  • Assist with lab upkeep, including maintenance and cleaning of instruments and workspaces.
  • Maintain inventory of lab chemicals, ensuring proper storage, disposal, and stock levels.
  • Update and maintain logs, generate graphs, charts, and tables.
  • Record and audit quality assurance data for traceability and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot lab instrumentation and product quality issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED; an Associate degree in a science or technical field is preferred.
  • Equivalent education and experience considered.
  • 4-6 years of lab experience in oils & fats, food processing, grain milling, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Self-starter with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interpret directives and documentation.
  • Proficient in routine reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Problem-solving skills with limited standardization.
  • Knowledge of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Experience with ERP systems like SAP is preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
