About The Role

The laboratory technician's goal is to certify the final quality of asphalt products and ensure high customer satisfaction. The technician will assist in developing asphalt binder grades for Western Canada, working in an AASHTO-certified lab for performance-graded asphalt binders.

Responsibilities
  1. Test and evaluate asphalt products (BBR, PAV, RTFO, DSR, pen, viscosity)
  2. Maintain familiarity with MSDS specs and emergency responses
  3. Assist in product development and lab calibrations
  4. Participate in AASHTO/AMRL round robin testing
  5. Ensure quality compliance with specifications
  6. Perform routine maintenance and calibrations on lab equipment
  7. Maintain equipment records
  8. Identify and report hazards, suggest improvements
  9. Promote safety and environmental policies
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Chemical Technology or related field
  • Experience in a lab environment
  • AASHTO Technician Certification
  • Skills in QC Software and MS Office
  • Knowledge of Asphalt Binder Testing (AASHTO M320)
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Attention to detail, troubleshooting skills
  • Effective communication
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Reliable transportation (site not accessible via public transit)
  • Adherence to safety protocols and PPE use
