Job summary

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant to support students and collaborate with the school planning team. You will follow programs and materials identified by teachers and district leads, and provide feedback on student progress.

The role involves assisting with large and small group activities, helping students with diverse needs, and contributing to a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to establish rapport with students with physical, emotional and learning disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of behavior management and use of reinforcement per guidelines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Job description

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools covers a geographical area that includes the regional communities of Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Spirit River. We are a team of 600 staff who provide quality teaching and learning experiences for approximately 5400 students.

Position Overview

• Assist students and meet with the school planning team in following programs, strategies and materials identified/developed and introduced by the teacher, specialized teams and District leads
• Provide feedback to the supervisory Teacher on his/her observations of students
• Assist with large group activities and work with small groups or individual students

Ideal Candidate Qualities

• Able to establish rapport with students who present with physical, emotional and learning disabilities who come from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge of behavior management and positive reinforcement and the ability to utilize behavior management techniques according to established guidelines
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Desired Qualifications

• Educational Assistant certificate or diploma preferred
• Must be willing to assist students with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene
• Experience working with children with special needs in an organized setting is preferred
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform the position may be considered

Starting compensation will be as per the collective agreement is $22.26/hr with a generous benefit package included.
