Job summary

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division seeks an Education Assistant to support Division schools with English language learners and students with diverse needs.

The role involves collaborating with the classroom teacher, EAL Coordinator and principal to implement individualized education plans, maintain confidentiality, and support students in all aspects of their learning environment. Experience with sensory needs and communication supports is valued.

Qualifications

  • Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma.
  • Brain Story Certification completed is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support learning for students including those with English as an Additional Language.
  • Maintain confidentiality within the school community.
  • Collaborate with teachers, EAL Coordinator and principal to support individualized student goals.
  • Assist with personal care tasks when required.
  • Engage students with diverse needs in classroom activities.

Job description

EDUCATION ASSISTANT – Division Schools

This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment, successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our New Employees page.

We are looking to hire a temporary 28.0 hour per week Education Assistant to support our Division schools. This assignment is to commence September 18, 2026 and terminate October 30, 2026. This position is covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement. Please quote Posting #4058361 .

Under the direction of the Division English as an Additional Language Coordinator, and in collaboration with the Inclusive Education Liaison, the classroom teacher, and the principal, the successful candidate will support programming for children who are learning English as an additional language. An understanding of cultural perspectives and the newcomer to Canada experience would be an asset. The ability to speak multiple languages would also be an asset.

The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment. This role may involve working with students who have complex sensory needs, exhibit challenging behaviours, use augmented and alternative communication systems, and may require assistance with toileting and other personal care tasks.

The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the role in order to actively engage students in all aspects of their educational program. Confidentiality is of utmost importance in achieving the common good for all students. Through collaborative team-based structure, the Education Assistant will carry out tasks as assigned by both the daily and program supervisors.

EDUCATION
  • Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent;
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness https://www.albertafamilywellness.org/training.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least one-year experience working with students with special programming needs.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS
  • First Aid training;
  • Knowing ASL is considered an asset;
  • Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate;
  • Training and experience with augmentative communication systems;
  • Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
  • Understands that it is of paramount importance to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of the school community;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Willing to participate in new learning opportunities;
  • Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs;
  • Ability to contribute in a collaborative team-based learning structure.

The starting rate for this position is $25.26 per hour. Holy Spirit Catholic School Division offers a 100% employer paid comprehensive benefit package, supporting the wellness of our employees and meeting the needs of their families.
