Job summary

Prairie Valley School Division is seeking a Bus Driver to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and related activities. The role requires maintaining a Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's Licence and a valid School Bus Endorsement, with training available for non-licensed drivers.

A current SGI Driver's Abstract must be submitted, and medical examinations, plus First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) are required.

Qualifications

  • Must hold and maintain a Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's Licence.
  • Must hold a valid School Bus Endorsement (training available for non-licensed drivers).
  • A current SGI Driver's Abstract detailing all driving records for the last 5 years must be submitted with your application.
  • Copy of abstract can be uploaded, emailed, or faxed to the noted addresses.
  • Satisfactory medical examinations per The Highway Traffic Act.
  • First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain one at Prairie Valley School Division's expense.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and school-related activities as part of a team.
  • Operate a school bus safely and in compliance with traffic laws and school division policies.
  • Assist with loading and unloading students, including those in wheelchairs, as required.
  • Adhere to schedules and communicate with transportation staff as needed.

Job Purpose

Bus Driver is responsible to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and school-related activities, working as part of a team to contribute to the growth and development of children and youth.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to safely and confidently operate a school bus
  • Good working knowledge of The Highway and Transportation Act and The Traffic Safety Act
  • Good working knowledge of the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook and Saskatchewan Commercial Driver's Handbook
  • Good understanding of, and ability to apply, a range of student behaviour strategies focused on positive reinforcement of desired behaviour
  • Demonstrated patience, maturity and experience working with children
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Qualifications
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's License
  • Must hold a valid School Bus Endorsement
    • training is available for non-licensed school bus drivers
  • Clear driver's abstract, with no major infractions
    • A current Driver's Abstract from SGI detailing all (personal and commercial) driving records for the last 5 years must be submitted with your application
    • A copy of the abstract can be:

      • emailed to transportation@pvsd.ca or
      • faxed to 306-543-1771.
  • Satisfactory medical examinations in accordance with The Highway Traffic Act
  • First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain one at Prairie Valley School Division's expense.
Working Conditions
  • Full time bus routes are paid at daily base rate of $58.63 plus a per km rate calculated at $0.23/km
  • 100% employer paid health benefits plan

  • Drivers with young children may take their children with them on the bus
  • Subject to CUPE Agreement
  • Commencing as soon as possible and ending December 18, 2026 or upon return of incumbent, whichever is earlier. There is a possibility for an extension.
  • Working in varied climates and differing road conditions
  • Physical ability to load and unload students in wheelchairs may be required.
