Job summary

The Chinook School Division is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to safely transport students on school days and maintain the vehicle to required standards. This role emphasizes safety, communication, and dependable attendance in a supportive division environment.

The successful candidate will hold a Class 5 license with a School Bus S Endorsement, a clean driver’s record, and strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and staff. Training and orientation are provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum Class 5 license with School Bus “S” Endorsement.
• Possess and maintain a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
• Previous experience working with children.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong cognitive ability to make sound decisions.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to deal with a broad range of students, staff and members of the general public.
• Basic computer skills.
• Good physical condition with the ability to exert up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school on all attendance days.
• Regular cleaning of the bus.
• Adherence to safe bus driving procedures.
• Compliance with all personal protective equipment procedures.
• Advising parents of route changes.
• Regularly communicating with school Administration and Transportation Department personnel regarding student conduct.
• Conducting daily vehicle inspections as required by The Traffic Safety Act.
• Ensuring bus maintenance standards are being maintained and mechanical deficiencies are reported to the bus garage in a timely manner.
• Providing casual employees with an orientation to your bus, bus route and rules specific to your route.
• Promoting the vision, mission, values and goals of Chinook School Division.
