Job summary

The Municipality of North Cowichan in British Columbia is seeking a Lifeguard/Instructor for a part-time, temporary role through December 14, 2026, or until the incumbent returns. The position focuses on safe aquatic programming and high-quality educational opportunities for the public.

Applicants should hold required lifeguard and instructor certifications, plus First Aid, with working knowledge of pool systems and office software.

Qualifications

Minimum 16 years of age and completion of Grade 10.
Possession and maintenance of National Lifeguard - Pool Option, Lifesaving Instructor, Standard First Aid, and Swim Instructor certifications.
Demonstrated skills with a Windows-driven network system and Microsoft Office programs.
Knowledge of water rescue, safety, program content, delivery and communication in aquatics.
Basic knowledge of pool filtration systems and water balancing.
Familiarity with WorkSafeBC, Ministry of Health regulations and BC Safety Authority procedures.
Ability to receive directions, manage priorities and operate aquatic facilities safely.
Ability to work weekends, evenings, statutory holidays and shift work.
A medical certificate may be required to confirm fitness for the position.

Responsibilities

Provide feedback and direction to casual Lifeguards.
Schedule based on operational needs and collective agreement terms.
Work hours include shifts, nights and weekends; deployment to other duties may occur.
