Job summary

Confederation College Thunder Bay campus seeks a skilled technician to support welding, heavy trades and related programs. You will assist students and faculty during lab activities and help maintain shop equipment.

The role requires a welding certificate of qualification, trade certification or equivalent, and at least three years in manufacturing or welding. Safety training such as WHMIS, rigging and forklift certification are desirable.

Job description

The incumbent provides specialized technical services to the Welding, Plumbing, Heavy Duty, Truck and Coach, Automotive Service Technician and Millwright Apprenticeships, post-secondary Welding Techniques program and the Welding portions of the Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Techniques, Pre Technology, Carpentry and Renovations Techniques, and Motive Power programs.
Assists students and faculty during lab activity
Maintain and co-ordinates the maintenance of equipment in the shop area
Designs and develops equipment and material to aid in the application side of class delivery
Purchases and maintains lab inventory including consumables.

The incumbent must have progressive experience in the manufacturing/welding fields of work that demonstrates the incumbent’s skills and knowledge for planning and preparing for labs/shops. Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people to work together as a team and also independently.
Have the ability to work with minimum supervision, thorough and methodical in performing the duties which requires a high degree of personal motivation, skill, personal integrity, reliability, work practices and a very high degree of responsibility.
Must be familiar with applicable occupational health and safety legislations and WHMIS .
